This professional development opportunity will provide details of the expectations for teachers that are new to  Year 6. Delegates will explore the details of the STA summative assessments for reading; the exemplifications materials for writing and the National Curriculum  expectations for grammar, punctuation and spelling.

The three online sessions are intended to strengthen subject leadership and delegates will have the opportunity to engage in professional dialogue with colleagues. Information about current literacy developments, approaches, guidance and thinking will be shared.

Subject leaders will have an increased awareness of guidance and can use this to inform actions and priorities to improve standards in the subject across the school.

Furthermore, these sessions will offer a platform for subject leaders to exchange best practices and innovative strategies, fostering a collaborative environment conducive to continuous improvement. By staying abreast of the latest literacy developments and approaches, delegates will be better equipped to adapt and tailor their teaching methodologies to meet the evolving needs of their students.

Delegates will be supported in developing their practice through three interactive and informative sessions. They will gain a deeper understanding of effective pedagogies and their application in the primary classroom. The sessions will cover:

This course consists of 4 modules: subject knowledge, spelling, writing and reading. The course is aimed at those who are new to or returning to Year 1. The aim of the course is to equip you with the skills needed to teach English in Year 1.

This course explores the concept of Mastery in writing and recaps KS1 expectations. We suggest activities to help pupils build ideas and stamina and unpick what shared and guided writing should look like in the classroom by providing a model lesson.
